Fire Station Manual

The Fire Station is in a safe neighborhood, however, please lock your car.  Also set the alarm and lock the fire station doors when you leave.  Operating instructions for the door lock and security system have been supplied to you with your bill. The fire station has many antiques and expensive fire fighters memorabilia.  So please treat them as if they were your own.

Temperature Settings – The thermostat is located on the east wall of the lounge.  The fire station is a two story building, on hot days, the temperature upstairs may be on the warm side.  If this is the case, a fan is available in the kitchen to direct cooler air up the stairs. When you check out, please turn the thermostat to off.

Continental Breakfast -May consist of:
Coffee, milk, orange juice, jams, assorted fruits, cereals and pastries.  Please help yourself.  Plates and silverware are in the kitchen cabinets.  Extra paper towels and napkins are in the pantry.

Toaster – is located on the kitchen counter.

Microwave – Located above the stove

Bath Towels- Additional towels are available in both bathrooms. Used towels and other linen (when dry) can go in the clothes hamper located in the upstairs bathroom.

Blankets – Spare blankets and bedding for blow up beds are in the upstairs closet.

Downstairs Beds- There is a futon and a studio couch with  a hide-a-bed.  Sheets and blankets are on the studio couch. Sheets and blankets for the futon as well as pillows are in the west closet in kitchen.  If you plan to use both beds, you will need to rearrange the furniture.

Inflatable Mattresses - are available upstairs in the small closet by the stairs.  The blower motors must be plugged into the AC power for at least 8 hours before use.  They are fully charged.

Iron and Ironing Board - are located in the right closet in kitchen.

Cleaning Supplies – if needed, there are cleaning supplies in downstairs bathroom above the toilet.  Paper towels and napkins are also in the pantry.

Garbage- A trash container and bags are under the kitchen sink. A trash bin is in the garage.

Garage – A lock on the garage door, between the kitchen and garage is at top of door This can prevent small children from entering the garage without adult supervision.

TV- TV and DVD are available in the lounge cabinet.  DVDs can be rented from a local DVD store about 5 blocks from the station (see map). Cable and standard ABC,CBS, NBC are available. A small number of DVDs are available.

Internet – Wireless internet is available.  It is an unsecured network .

Flashlight- is in the 3rd drawer on left side of sink.

Fire Extinguisher- is under kitchen sink and lots on fire truck.

Smoking- is not allowed in the station.

Phone- There is no telephone service available in the station.

Basement- is not off limits, it contains tools for the station and fire truck.

Fire Truck- The power to the truck has been turned off so the fire siren and starter will not work.  Feel free to sit in the truck for pictures.  Please supervise children as they could get hurt due to sharp surfaces.

Garage- The fire memorabilia is not replaceable.  Please treat them with care.

BBQ- A BBQ is in the garage and can be used on the back deck.  For safety, do not use the BBQ in the garage.

Water heater – is located in the basement, so it may take additional time for hot water to reach the upstairs bathroom.  Sometimes, we forget to turn on the hot water heater.  So if there is not hot water, go to the basement and to the south of the stairs is the hot water heater. Inside the door of the hot water heater there is an on/off switch.  Place the switch to the on position.

DVD rental store – Family Video is about 9 blocks away (see map).

HyVee Grocery - Store is 5 blocks away (see map).

Perkins Park - is 2 blocks away (see map).
